John Hunter and the Aztec Treas

John Hunter and the Aztec Treasure

John Hunter is Pragmatic Play’s answer to Play n’ Go’s popular Rich Wilde series of UK slots. Like his counterpart, John Hunter is an adventurer in the mould of Indiana Jones, and this game is the second such adventure-themed slot to star the character. As its title suggests, John Hunter and the Aztec Treasure sees our hero travel off to South America to rob a few graves, bag some treasure and possibly share his spoils with you along the way.

John Hunter and the Aztec Treasure is played over 5 reels and a random number of paylines. The number of paylines is determined by however many rows appear on the screen on each spin. As many as 7.776 paylines can potentially appear, with players able to wager anything from 20p up to £100 a spin on the game. With an RTP rate of 96.5% and medium to low variance gameplay, wins occur frequently in this release. Prizes are non-progressive and do tend to be a touch on the petite side, though.

Special features

Wild symbols can appear in the game as golden masks. These snake-like symbols can substitute for all other icons, barring other special icons. They have monetary value to players, and can only appear on the second, third and fourth reels of the game.

The other type of special symbol in this slot is the stone dais. This symbol can pop up on all five of the slot’s reels. You’re going to want to land it on at least three of them, but potentially more to win a series of free games. That bonus round is highly valuable and can dish out the best wins in the slot. It is a feature well worth triggering if you’re given the opportunity to do so.

Bonus features

Players will receive between 5 and 25 free spins if they land three scatters. Bagging four such symbols in the John Hunter and the Aztec Treasure slot offers up between 10 and 25 free games. A total of 15 to 25 free spins are yours if you land all five of the stone dais scatters on the reels in the base game.

Once the bonus round begins, players can pocket a random multiplier on each free spin. These could be worth up to 10x the rate of pay, so they are very advantageous. At the same time, players can prosper from further free spins, with two or more scatters dishing out between 3 and 15 extra spins to players.

John Hunter and the Aztec Treasure is a step up from the previous entry in this series. It is also capable of giving Play ‘n Go’s Rich Wilde series of slots a run for their money. However, despite its cheap gameplay and a generous helping of paylines, players won’t be able to help but think that this release is a touch more basic than its counterpart. Players who aren’t fans of unnecessarily complicated slots will find it a treat, though.
