Jungle Jim and the Lost Sphinx

Jungle Jim: El Dorado was a hugely successful slot for Microgaming. Designed to take on Play ‘n Go Rich Wilde and the Book of Dead, and Novomatic’s Book of Ra, Microgaming’s take also sees a dashing explorer visit historic locations in the hunt for treasure. The series is considerably more graphically impressive than its counterparts, and this is something Microgaming has continued with their slot sequel. Jungle Jim and the Lost Sphinx sees their hero travel to Egypt this time, in search of gold, jewels and more.

The Jungle Jim and the Lost Sphinx slot uses a varying payline structure, depending on how your game is panning out. To kick things off, players are looking at wagering on 5 reels and 35 paylines. Stakes can be stretched from 10p up to £20 a turn in this release, which carries a non-progressive jackpot worth 350x a bet. In terms of gameplay, the slot is a medium variance release, much like most other Microgaming slots.

Special Features

Microgaming has made sure that their Rolling Reels gaming engine has found its way into this game. It has been included in a way that sort of resembles the collapsing reels structure found in MegaWays slots. Following any win on the Jungle Jim reels, the winning icons are removed. They will be replaced by new ones, as symbols cascade down to fill the gaps.

The more wins in succession a player lands in this manner, the larger the multiplier they will have boosting their wins. On the third win in succession, players will also get to play with an extended set of 50 paylines. By the time you land five wins on the spin (if you do), you could be looking at 10x multipliers. Following any losing spin, the game resets.

To aid players, Jungle Jim pops up as a wild symbol in this game. He can substitute for any other icons, save for the scatters. Moreover, wilds do not appear on the first reel, though, they do appear on the rest.

Bonus Features

Jungle Jim slot players are going to need to land three scatters (on the third, fourth and fifth reels) if they wish to trigger a free spins bonus in Jungle Jim and the Lost Sphinx. Once that round begins, a total of 12 spins are dished out to players. This free spin bonus will use the full array of 50 paylines, so it is well worth triggering if you can. Again, Microgaming’s Rolling Reels feature is in play during this bonus round, and the multipliers offered for chained wins are worth more, too. Up to 20x multipliers can be bagged by landing five wins in succession here.

Sphinx symbols can appear on the third reel in this bonus. These can be accumulated (and removed from the reels in the process). They can increase multipliers and add free spins, based on how many are acquired.

Overview

There is a lot happening in Jungle Jim and the Lost Sphinx, arguably more so than its predecessor. At a time when many of these explorer-themed slots all copy the same format used by Book of Ra, it is refreshing to see Microgaming go in a totally different direction with this online and mobile slot’s features.
