Playboy Gold Jackpots

Microgaming still retain the license to the Playboy franchise. Having already released a standard Playboy slot, and a multiplayer edition of the game, Microgaming is now seeking to do something new. In December 2019, the Playboy franchise gained another new entry, as Microgaming unveiled the Playboy: Gold Jackpots slot. Despite its title, though, this is not a progressive jackpot slot release.

Developed in coordination with Triple Edge Studios, Microgaming’s Playboy: Gold Jackpots is a non-progressive release and one which can dole out wins worth up to 2,500x a bet. The game features 30 paylines spanning its 5 reels, but wagers are considerably cheaper than you might expect. For instance, the floor bet in this Playboy slot is set to just 10p a turn. Even maximum stakes won’t set players back more than £60 a game. The slot is quintessentially a medium variance release and has an RTP rate which is a touch on the disappointing side, at just 96%. That may not be the only disappointing aspect of this game, though.

Special Features

The Playboy: Gold Jackpots slot brings a few new features to the franchise, but none of these will particularly blow players away. High paying symbols can pop up stacked on the reels, and these can join to form 3x4 blocks. Golden blocks can appear as wild symbols, and they can add multipliers worth up to 5x to wins in which they play a part. This is hardly revolutionary stuff, though.

Wheel segments appear as special symbols, and these need to appear adjacent to one another to trigger the slot’s singular bonus feature. This is going to be harder than it sounds. There are three-wheel segments in total, and they must not only appear adjacently on reels but be perfectly aligned. Nudges can help with this, but they are rare, too. This is a bonus which is not going to be triggered too often. In that case, it must deliver. Unfortunately, it doesn’t. Let’s look at it all the same, though.

Bonus Features

Once players have managed to align the wheel parts to form a complete symbol, the wheel-based bonus in this slot becomes active. What follows is a spin on a wheel of fortune. That wheel can deliver prizes worth up to 2,500x a bet (the non-progressive jackpot), or 10 free spins. There is nothing overly remarkable about the free spin bonus. Colossal symbols (blocks) can appear on the reels, and it is possible to retrigger the round to play with up to 25 spins, but that’s about all she writes.

You can question the production of a new Playboy slot in the current political climate, but this review focuses on the gambling aspect of the game, and there are gambling-related reasons to be unhappy with this Playboy: Gold Jackpots. One of the chief criticisms of this new release is that there isn’t really any justification for producing a sequel slot. It doesn’t particularly bring anything exciting to the table which is predecessors weren’t capable of.
